Sai Satcharitha Navaham at Madhuvanam

Srimad Sai Satcharita, the Biography of Sai Baba of Shirdi is narrated in Nine days preceeding the Vijayadasami each year at Madhuvanam Sai Ashram, Trivandrum.

Shirdi Sai idol is worshipped in forenoon in the form of Nava Durgas on each day as Sai Matha. This decoration is retained between kakkad arati and Madhyahna arati. This will continue upto Maha Navami day, the day preceeding Vijaya Dasami, the Samadhi day of Bhagavan.

The Parayanam starts with Archana on Sai Satcharita book. Six chapters are read every day. During the reading, the events portrayed in the book are re enacted at the hall.
The first day onwards, a venerated grinding stone will be worshipped and will be used by devotees gathered for grinding wheat. This starts with the passage mentioning the event.Devotees are advised to take home the flour and pour around their houses for protection. This has proven to be a succesful remedy for many malices.

The venerated grinding stone

A seperate Utsava Moorthy ( festival idol) of Shirdi Sai is kept in front of the altar for worship by devotees. This is in the Dwarakamayi pose.

This idol will be taken in Palki Procession (Palanquin) around Madhuvanam with Pandari dance bhajan in the evening. This will be elaborated as Uroos Procession with quawalis on the second day and Chavadi procession on seventh day days when these events are depicted in the book.

For Chavadi Yatra, even a horse to remind Swamy's Syama Karna is decorated in the flabouyant manner.Devotees will dress up as the prominent devotees of Shirdi baba and lead the palanquin procession. The vendors and shop owners in the streets worship the palanquin with their karpoora (Camphor) aratis.Bhajans and quawalis will accompany the pandari dance bhajan.

When the palki procession reaches back the main hall, Sai Utsav Moorthy will be kept at the Jhoola (Sing) and appropriate songs will be sung. After this event, Night arati is performed.

On the final day, Vijayadasami, at 4 AM, Rudra Abhisheka is performed in Shirdi Sai idol in the mail altar with consecrated water and other materials. Nine small urns are used for this containing sanctified water on which NAVAKA pooja is performed.

These urns are used for Rudra abhisheka in the morning.

After this morning abhisheka, rithwiks proceed to Mahanyasa parayana the preparatory rituals for Ekadasa Rudra Abhisheka.During this time, a kalasa (urn) filled with vibhuthy (ash) is decorated in the ceremonial manner.

This urn is worshipped with Rudra Trisathy Mantra eleven times after the detailed Sankalpa

On each round eleven devotees will participate in this archana.

This vibhuthy (ash) is used for Abhisheka by devotees on the Utsava Murthy idol of Shirdi Sai during Samadhi hours.
While the devotees perform Rudra Trisathy Archana, the main idol at the altar is worshipped with abhisheka with eleven materials prescribed in the scriptures, accompanied by chanting of Rudra Prasna eleven times. This is known as Rudra Ekadasini also.

As the finale Shej arati is offered to Sai and devotees disperse with deep devotion and inner peace.
